Welcome to Northern Marianas College's Fall 2019 Registration Bulletin! This page contains the information you need to enroll in classes during the upcoming Fall 2019 term. Fall 2019 Registration Steps

Registration Priority

Ongoing students are scheduled to register ahead of new and readmitted students as published in the Fall 2019 Calendar. Ongoing students who receive permission to register from their advisors may access the online Proa Portal to register for courses online at any time during the registration period.

New and Readmitted students must attend the New & Readmitted Student Orientation as well as meet with an advisor prior to gaining access to the online course registration system (Proa Portal).

Additional Information for New and Readmitted Students

New students and students who had not attended NMC for a year or more must first complete and submit an admission July 31, 2019 in order to enroll during Fall 2019 semester.

Step 1: Sign up for an English & Math Placement Test. All students are required to take both the English & Math placement test prior to meeting with an advisor for registration. Bring the score report provided to you by the Testing Coordinator to your advisor for review and course planning purposes. Test dates and times are provided in the Placement Test Schedule section of this bulletin.

Step 2: Attend a Student Orientation Session. All new and readmitted students are required to attend an orientation session prior to enrollment.

New and readmitted students must view the orientation video series before registering for classes. For further instructions on Student Orientation and how it's going to be done for the Fall 2019 semester, please email Alexis Cabrera at [email protected].

After watching the videos, students must complete an online questionnaire, which must be submitted to the Office of Admissions and Records at Building N. Registration holds will be removed after the questionnaire is submitted.

Placement Tests

All degree-seeking students must take the English and Math placement tests prior to registering for classes. The English placement test starts at 9:30am and the Math placement test starts at 1:30pm on the following dates:

To schedule your placement test, call 237-6774 or email date/time preference to [email protected]. Proceed to the Office of Admissions & Records (Bldg. N) to obtain a Placement Test Form. Make payment ($25 per test) at the NMC Cashier Window (Bldg. N).

Course Overload Instructions

Students can register for up to 18 credits with the academic advisor’s approval. Students can register for 19-22 credits with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and submission of a completed Request for Course Overload form which must be approved by both the student’s academic advisor and by the department chair for the student’s program.

Add, Drop, and Withdrawal Procedures

Follow these steps if you’d like to add or drop any class from your schedule during and after the first week of classes.

  1. Obtain an Add/Drop Form or a Withdrawal Form from your advisor. (Note: Withdrawal from courses after the second week, a “W” will appear on your academic record.)
  2. Have your advisor initial in the appropriate box.
  3. Proceed to the Office of Admissions and Records (Building N) for processing and to receive a copy of your new class schedule.
  4. Review your class schedule.
  5. Proceed to the Financial Aid Office (Building N) for financial aid award adjustment, if applicable.
  6. Proceed to the NMC Finance Office (Room N-4) for financial adjustment and final processing.

Waitlist Steps:

The registration feature in the Proa Portal allows you to get on a waitlist for classes that are full provided you take the following steps:

  1. A course that is full will have a “Wait” button instead of “Add”. Click on “Wait” to include this course in “My Cart” as a Waitlist Item. Your waitlist item(s) will remain with the status, “On Waitlist”, as long as the class remains full.
  2. When a seat becomes available and you are next on the list for this seat, you will automatically be notified by e-mail that your status for the course in “My Cart” has changed to “Waitlist Pending”. In “My Cart”, check the box beside the course name and click on the “Next” button at the bottom of the page. The course will now appear in “My Cart” with the status “Registered”. NOTE: You will have 24 hours to add the course.
  3. Proceed to the Financial Aid Office (Building N) for financial aid award adjustment, if applicable, and/or to the NMC Finance Office (Room N-4) for financial payment and final processing.

Waitlist Tips:

  1. If you decide you are no longer interested in taking the course, REMOVE yourself from the waitlist so that the next student will move up on the list.
  2. Have a back-up plan in case a seat does not open up. There is no guarantee that a seat will become available.
  3. If you chose to waitlist for a class, check your e-mail and “My Cart” daily. If you are notified that a seat is available, take action quickly. You will not automatically be registered once a seat becomes available. You will have 24 hours to register for the course (refer to Step 2 above) or the course will automatically be removed from “My Cart”. You are responsible for registering yourself for the course. Your advisor will not get an email and you will not automatically be registered.
  4. The waitlist option will close, as will registration via the Proa Portal, one day prior to the first day of classes for the term.

Degree-seeking students need to meet with their advisors prior to and/or during the advising and registration periods. Non-degree seeking students may proceed to the Office of Admissions and Records (N-3) to pick up and complete a registration form.
