Associated Students of NMC (ASNMC)

A Brief History of ASNMC

ASNMC was chartered on September 12, 1986, pursuant to NMC Board Policy 5007 of Student Services and Governmental Affairs. After one year of it’s charter, ASNMC then implemented the first student focus planning committee that ratified the ASNMC constitution to include the establishment of the first student internal clubs and requested the board to include a non-voting member to the board of regents. Currently the ASNMC student government has chartered over 30 clubs in the past with membership application for club organization increasing every fall semester.

ASNMC consists of a cooperative and student-driven governance body that shapes the core of student leadership. Its executive cabinet comprises four students who are elected at large by the student body and serve a one-year term in office. The positions are the President/Student Regent, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, three senators, and finally the collective governing body of club representatives that formed the Interclub Council as the main advisory council to the executive cabinet. The council consists of club representatives from the:

  • Carolinian Cultural Club
  • Chamorro Club
  • NMC Drama Club
  • Northern Marianas Academy Club
  • Nursing Club
  • Phi Theta Kappa
  • Proa Rhetoric Circle
  • Natural Resources Management Club
  • Proa Music Society

Past victories for ASNMC include co-chairing the 2006-2008 college Charter Day, hosting numerous forums for CNMI-wide issues, and actively participating in the College's governance meetings. ASNMC officers are members of the College's internal governance body that shapes the college’s views on student’s perspectives and concerns. The organizations are College Council, Academic Council, Management Team, DSS Directors, Registration Committee, Graduation Committee, Tuition and Fee Task Force, Strategic Planning Task Force, CACG Roundtable, Budget and Finance Committee, Program Review Outcomes Assessment Committee, Academic Advising Committee, Governance Review Task Force, and Board of Regents. ASNMC is dedicated to one cause: maintaining and improving the quality of education and student life on campus.

ASNMC was instrumental in all student-related functions during the fall of 2007 by showcasing numerous student talents and cultural displays in the annually international Education Day Celebration. ASNMC has continuously worked in partnership with the Office of Student Leadership and Activities (OSAL) in developing a Student Affairs Committee for both school year 2007 and 2008 that supported all ASNMC functions and sponsored events. The committee was the driving force behind the 2008 Charter Day Celebration Planning Committee.
