The Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Service (NMC CREES) is inviting interested community members to participate in the Second Tropical Pasture and Livestock Management Conference, taking place at the Tinian Dynasty from June 5-7, 2013.

The conference is part of an ongoing effort to develop and promote sustainable Grass-fed Beef production in the region. The conference will bring together ranchers, agricultural business owners and managers, military planners, extension and natural resource professionals from the Mariana Islands, Hawaii and several U.S. mainland states to build on a unique network of livestock industry and technology knowledge. It also presents an opportunity to share cultural heritage in producing livestock products for small islands and rural communities.

The conference will include a discussion on topics like the Marianas Islands Cattle Industry, Meat Processing & Marketing, Land Use Concerns/Issues, and programs for ranchers. The conference will also feature field tours that will highlight relevant farming activities.

The conference is a cooperative effort between the University of Hawaii-Manoa Cooperative Extension Service, Northern Marianas College, the Tinian Cattlemen’s Association, the Tinian Mayor’s Office, and the Tinian Dynasty Hotel, and is supported with funds from the USDA-OAO (project #59-2501-10-040s-12).
