Saipan Tribune: NMC launches online registration (December 3, 2014)

For the first time in its history, ongoing students at the Northern Marianas College can now register online from any computer with Internet access. The new service, called Power Campus Selfservice, is part of an online portal that will also provide students with others services, according to the college.

“This is a great day for the college and especially for the students, who will have more immediate and convenient access to key services and information,” said NMC president Dr. Sharon Hart in a statement. She said the college would continue to look for ways to further expand its student services by maximizing technology.

The college expects the portal to shorten registration times to several minutes as opposed to the long lines of manual registration in previous semesters. Students still are expected to meet with their respective academic advisers, however.

The system is being launched just in time for the spring 2015 semester.

Sumech San Nicolas, a business administration major at the college, said registration for classes has always been a “big hassle” in the past. Now, she hopes to register within minutes “without having to stand in long lines or taking time off from work,” she said.

She said the new portal allows students to easily see which classes have already been filled “so we can take other classes sections.”

In addition to allowing students to register for classes online, the new online portal will allow students to view their schedule, see their personal information, grades, unofficial transcript and financial information. An online payment feature will be added in the near future, according to the college.

Online registration for ongoing NMC students will begin today, Dec. 3, 2014, with the following schedule:

-Dec. 3-14: For seniors, graduate students, and DSS students;

-Dec. 15-21: For juniors/seniors;

-Dec. 22-28: For sophomores, juniors, and seniors; and

-Dec. 28-Jan. 16, 2015: For all ongoing students.

More information about spring 2015 registration will be posted on the NMC website. NMC’s online registration brings the college in step with many colleges and universities nationally who have similar online capacity.
