Parents of High School Graduates Invited to Summit (June 30, 2015)

The Northern Marianas College is inviting parents of recent high school graduates from CNMI public and private high schools to the NMC Parent Summit, which will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 8:30am to 1:30pm at the Saipan World Resort.

The aim of the Parent Summit is to provide parents with practical information and resources they need to help their graduates prepare for and succeed in college. Topics of the summit include: “the value of a college education;” “paying for college;” “how to be a supportive parent;” and more.

There is no fee to attend the summit.

According to Leo Pangelinan, Dean of Student Services, attendance at the Parent Summits is a great way for parents to learn how to become meaningfully involved in their children’s pursuit of higher education.

“Participants will also gain strategies for how to provide encouragement, particularly about academic issues related to their college-going children,” Pangelinan added. “There will also be discussions about many resources that are available for college students.”

All parents or guardians of recent graduates from either public or private high schools are welcome to attend. Participants will be accommodated on a first-come first-serve basis. Lunch will be served, seats are limited and we ask that interested individuals who may need special accommodations contact the Office of Admissions and Records.

The Parent Summit is supported by the Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service and College Access Challenge Grant program. For more information about the summit please visit www.marianas.edu or contact the NMC Office of Admissions and Records at 234-5498 ext. 6768 or 6770.
