Marianas Variety: Lee tops NMC Foundation Open (March 21, 2017)

NMI’S youngest ace golfer Dong Young “Edward” Lee bested the six other top golfers in the 14th Annual Northern Marianas Foundation Open Golf Tournament at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course on Saturday.

Over 100 visiting and local golfers participated in the event that will raise funds to help NMC students.

The 13-year-old Lee who topped last year’s A Flight joined the island’s other ace golfers in this year’s championship flight.

Once again, he proved to be always the man to beat in the major golf event like this one. He shot a 77 beating Ryan Kim and Daryl Poe who were tied at 79.

Kim prevailed in the scorecard playoff with Poe to take the second place.

Marianas Golf Association’s JJ Atalig settled for the fourth place with an 80 and Lee’s practice buddy, Feng Chun Jin, came fifth with an 81.

Refaluwasch Golf Association’s Harry Nakamura shot 89 for the sixth place and Filtaga Golfers Association’s Freddie Cataluna completed the list of champions but trailed far behind with a 200.

Shiori Onoue won the first place and Yong Sook Kwon second in the Ladies’ Flight.

Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho dominated the Senior Open Flight with a 76; Jang Hyew came second with a 77 and Joung Park, third with a 78.

Nick Sablan settled for the fourth with an 80 while Tars Olopai andJoe Tenorio were tied at 84.

Sung Soo Lim shot an 82 to win the first place in the A Flight and Frank Sablan had an 84 for the second place.

Dave Largent took the third place with an 86 and Freddie Salavaria settled for the fourth place with an 88.

In the B Flight tour, Kwon Oh Tae shot an 80 to win the first place and Benjamin Maborang, 84 for the second place.

Daniel O. Quitugua shot an 85 for the third place and Dong Woo Kim, 87 for the fourth place.

In the C Flight, former Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Luis Cepeda went into a tie both shooting 85. But the former governor took the first place in a scorecard playoff.

John Compton settled for the third with an 87.
