Marianas Variety: Jang hits hole-in-one in NMC Foundation golf tourney (March 27, 2017)

SENIOR golfer Jang Hyew Duck was having a bad game two holes in a row before he stepped into the tee spot on a familiar fairway.

All he needed was a birdie in order to recover a bit from the double-bogey he had in the hole behind him.

People around him cheered as they watched ball land on the green of Hole No 6 and rolled into the hole.

Jang who took the second place award in the senior flight also brought home $5,000 for shooting the hole-in-one in the NMC Foundation Golf Tournament at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course on March 18.

Although it was the first time he did it in a major tournament on island, hitting a hole-in-one is not new to him, Jang said in an interview during the awards banquet.

“It was my third time in my entire golf career and second time on that hole,” Jang said referring to the 130-yard par 3 hole of the east course designed by Greg Norman.

Jang hit at-par from Hole No. 1 to Hole No. 3 but three-putted for a bogey in Hole No. 4. Then, it went worse in Hole No. 5 where he double-bogeyed.

“But when get to Hole No. 6, the feeling was good. I was thinking of just a birdie because I knew I could do it.” Jang said.

Then, everybody cheered.

In the senior flight Jang shot a 77, just a stroke behind Saipan’s scratch player, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho who shot a 76 to win the division title.
