NMC business program candidate for specialized accreditation (June 30, 2017)

(NMC) — Northern Marianas College’s candidacy for specialized accreditation of its business programs was recently accepted by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs or ACBSP.

“Obtaining ACBSP accreditation involves a very rigorous process that attests business programs’ high quality and performance,” said NMC President Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “This prestigious designation will bring honor not only to our business students but to our college as well.”

Northern Marianas College is already accredited institution-wide by the Senior College and University Commission of the Western Association for Schools and Colleges.

The ASBSP accreditation, once granted, will provide an extra layer of quality assurance, acknowledgement, and prestige for the college’s business programs.

“We are moving quickly to complete the self-study and prepare for a site visit and other activities that are needed to complete the accreditation process,” added President Fernandez.

ACBSP is a leading specialized accreditation body for business education. Its mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize teaching excellence in the accreditation of business education programs throughout the world.

The organization accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels.

According to the ACBSP, it was recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation in 2001 and again in 2011, and was the first to offer specialized business accreditation at all degree levels. ACBSP currently accredits business programs at more than 1,200 campuses in 60 countries.
