Daycare providers complete NMC training (May 10, 2018)

The Northern Marianas College's Community Development Institute recently presented certificates of completion to a total of 18 daycare center providers who successfully completed the 'Developmentally Appropriate Practices' Methods Training.

The training was facilitated by CDI and the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs ' Child Care Development Fund.

Under the Developmentally Appropriate Practices Methods Training, 18 daycare providers received 21 hours of training that taught best practices in child care development. The intensive training focused on teaching participants how to understand the concept and application of a child-centered, play-based classroom; evaluate how the DAP approach enhances a child's development; create role-play activities that teachers can do to help children in physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional developmental skills; create DAP lessons and environments for infant and toddlers, and identify ways to assess children's developmental level.

'We are glad to partner with DCCA and Secretary Robert Hunter to provide training activities that expand the capacity of our child care providers,' said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez.

The training was funded by CCDF, which is a federally funded program whose ongoing quality child care initiative is to support CCDF providers, teachers, and caregivers to increase their knowledge and skills in the care of young children. By supporting the professional development of these individuals, improved outcomes for young children are realized.

NMC's Community Development Institute is a program that offers specialized courses and customized trainings in order to meet both the professional development and personal enrichment needs of the community.
