257 students to graduate from NMC (May 18, 2018)

NORTHERN Marianas College will confer degrees on 257 students at the Marianas High School gym on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. Last year, the number of NMC graduates was 208.

During NMC's 38th commencement exercises, 30 students will receive Bachelor of Science Degrees in Business Management; eight, BSBM-Accounting Concentration; three, Bachelor of Science in Education-Early Childhood; eight, Bachelor of Science in Education; and five, Bachelor of Science in Education-Rehabilitation and Human Services.

204 students will obtain associate degrees: Associate of Arts in Business, 10; AA Liberal Arts, 47; AA Liberal Arts-Education, 26; Associate in Applied Science Business Administration- Accounting Emphasis, 20; AAS in Business Administration-Business Management Emphasis, 18; AAS in Business Administration-Computer Application Emphasis, 11; AAS Hospitality Management, 16; AAS Criminal Justice, 22; AS Natural Resources Management, 16; and AS Nursing, 17.

'We are extremely very proud of all of our graduates,' said NMC President Dr. Carmen Fernandez. 'They have all worked incredibly hard to earn their college degrees and will now be entering the local workforce or furthering their studies by pursuing advanced degrees.'

She said the increasing number of graduates is 'a reflection of the growing number of residents who are looking to NMC for their professional advancement and development and who are looking to improve their lives through education.'

At the graduation ceremony on Saturday, NMC will also be presenting academic excellence awards to students who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA as well as naming the recipients of the Governor's Leadership Award and the Student Service Award.

NMC's first president, Dr. Catherine 'Kit' Porter, will be the keynote speaker.

'We look forward to celebrating the achievements of all our students with their families and friends on graduation day,' Fernandez said.

The live stream will begin at 4 p.m. and continue until about 6 p.m.
