Saipan Tribune: NMC starts fall with over 1,200 students

The Northern Marianas College opened its doors to over 1,200 students last Wednesday for the start of the fall semester.

NMC’s Office of Admissions and Records noted that there are 1,249 fulltime students enrolled this semester. An official from NMC noted that 10 years ago, NMC enrolled 790 students for the same semester.

Although classes at all levels were cancelled on Aug. 20, 2018, due to Typhoon Cimaron’s heavy downpour, NMC pushed through with welcoming students with several activities, including a block party, ice cream social, and other activities led by the Office of Student Activities and Leadership and the student government body.

NMC student Nadia Benjamin, who is currently on her last year, recognizes the hardship that lies ahead.

“I know it’s going to be a challenging year ahead, but I know that I will have the support of NMC’s staff and faculty to help me succeed,” she said.

NMC student and student government president Ken Gabrido said he is working with the other members of the Associated Students of NMC, or the ASNMC, to plan activities for students inside and outside the classroom.

“I truly believe that, as a student and an officer for ASNMC, the leadership skills, and education I get from NMC will help and prepare me as I pursue my long-term goals,” said Gabrido.
