CARES Act Will Benefit NMC Students (April 11, 2020)

Yesterday, on April 10, 2020, Northern Marianas College received confirmation from the U.S. Department of Education that the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act will provide approximately $1.8 million in grant funding to Northern Marianas College. Of this amount, about $920K is reserved for NMC students whose lives and educations have been disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

In an email to the campus community, Interim President Frankie Eliptico stated that the College is thankful for the assistance as the funds will be able to provide NMC students with some financial relief as they continue to face challenges in their pursuit of their college degrees. The grant provides guidelines that indicate students can use the funds to cover eligible expenses that include course materials, technology, housing, food, health care, and child care.

The College is working to ensure that students are able to access these funds soon. NMC Students should monitor their NMC student email ( for announcements and guidance that will be provided over the next few days.
