The latest news from Northern Marianas College

Northern Marianas College’s Cooperative Research, Extension, & Education Service (NMC-CREES) recently hosted Catherine Atalig as a Social Impact Intern. Atalig is a senior studying Environmental Studies and Computer Science at Swarthmore College.

She has been working with the NMC-CREES Nutrition and Health program and the CNMI Board of Parole Office (CNMI-BOP) on food security, agroforestry and restorative justice. Atalig created an interest survey, compiled results and presented her findings to the CNMI-BOP. The interest survey was created to gauge parolees’ interest in gardening and agroforestry. In addition, Atalig was able to assist in enhancing the Susupe Community Garden (SCG) by designing and painting a new SCG welcoming sign.
