While damage assessment and clean-up/recovery activities are already underway, the College is exploring options that will allow academic programs and student services to resume in the soonest possible time.

Information Sessions for NMC Students This Friday, November 23, 2018

Northern Marianas College is hosting information sessions for NMC students to provide updates on the continuation of the Fall 2018 Semester, and other updates related to NMC’s recovery efforts from Super Typhoon Yutu.

The information sessions will be held this Friday, November 23, 2018, at the American Memorial Park Indoor Theater. The first session will be held from 9am to 10am and the second session will be held from 3pm to 4pm.

Attendance at the info sessions is not required. The information sessions provide an additional opportunity for students to receive updates and ask questions. Similar information presented will also be published on the NMC website. NMC Recovery Update

When will classes resume?

We have construction crews on campus working to repair the extensive damage caused by Super Typhoon Yutu. Our team has been exploring temporary, alternate sites on Saipan to continue classes for our students. The target date for the continuation of classes is Dec. 3, 2018 (for afternoon and evening classes), but that date may be adjusted. More detailed announcements in regards to the resumption of Fall 2018 class schedule and an adjusted Spring 2019 class schedule will be available within the next few days. Please continue to check our NMC’s website or social media platforms for updated news.


Information Session for NMC Students (Optional for NMC Students)

Information about NMC’s updated class schedule, financial aid, and other announcements will be made on NMC’s website and social media platforms. Furthermore, NMC will be hosting information sessions to provide these updates in person on Friday, November 23, 2018, at the American Memorial Park Theater. There will be two sessions from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm. Attendance at these information sessions is NOT required. The information sessions provide another additional opportunity for students to receive updates and ask questions.

Resource Center

The Student Resource Center at NMC center is available for students, faculty, and staff to access computers that can be used to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Disaster Assistance or U.S. Small Business Loans online. Other services available at the Resource Center include:

  • Printing/Scanning (if available)
  • Phone/Laptop Charging Stations
  • Disaster Relief Information--shelter and food, relief, medical, and other services
  • Counseling - Speak with one of our counselors on-site to address academic questions/concerns, personal concerns, coping mechanisms, and much more

Scholarship Deadlines for Spring 2019

Northern Marianas College has communicated with SHEFA and CNMI Scholarship regarding scholarship deadlines for Spring 2019. Deadline for SHEFA applications is December 1, 2018. The deadline for CNMI Scholarship has been extended to December 31, 2018. All supporting documents are due by February 28, 2019. APIASF Online Application is ongoing until January 2019.

NMC Offices will be open from 9am to 4pm beginning Monday, November 19, 2018. Please park behind Building P as all other parking spaces on campus remain off limits for students. Northern Marianas College values the safety and security of all students, staff, and faculty so please stay within Buildings K, N, O, and P while on campus. All other areas on campus are restricted. We are continuing the work of exploring temporary relocations because some of the sites that we are looking at are also undergoing some renovations and repair work. Information Sheet for Faculty and Staff

I. Work Schedule

a. Staff and 12-Month Faculty: All staff will report back to regular work duty on November 06, 2018. Temporary Adjusted Work Hours will be from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. The temporary adjusted work hours are set up this way to support our employees by providing time for them to take care of personal needs during sunlight hours.

During the week of November 6th through the 9th, the focus of our efforts will be on transferring of office files and functioning small equipment and other items to the temporary office space. This time will also be focused on cleaning up and setting up of your temporary office space.

Please see the temporary office location information below for information on where to report.

RESTROOMS: The restrooms near the BOR and between N & O Buildings are available for use. The Porta-Potties are also located in front of the Administrative Building and are available for use.

b. 10-Month Faculty: The typhoon damages to our facilities were severe but we are working really hard to rebuild and restore our classrooms and also on identifying alternative classroom sites. All 10-month faculty are not required to report to work until classes are ready to resume. Your department chair will notify you a week in advance when we are ready to resume classes. Until then, please stay informed of campus news as they become available by periodically visiting our website or by calling your supervisor.

c. Adjunct Faculty: Adjunct faculty are not required to report to work until classes are ready to resume. The department chair of the program you teach with will notify you a week in advance when we are ready to resume classes. Until then, please stay informed of campus news as they become available by periodically visiting our website or by calling the department chair or director.

Other than the Student Resource Center, the NMC Saipan Campus remains closed to the general public at this time. Due to safety concerns, campus access is limited to NMC employees, primarily its staff, 12-month faculty, contractors and service providers as necessary.

III. Campus Resources

a. Student Call Center: The Office of Admissions and Records, Project PROA Team and the LSS Administrative Managers will call all enrolled students to find out how they are doing, what their needs for resources are so that we may assist in making referrals, and in identifying their enrollment plans.

b. Student Resource Center (SRC): A Student Resource Center will be located in the Olympio T. Borja Library and will be open to serve our students, faculty, and staff, beginning Wednesday, November 07. The Student Resource Center will have computers set up for our students, faculty, and staff to apply for federal assistance and other community assistance programs that are available online. A second Student Resource Center will be made available at the Testing Center for this same purpose. Hours of operation for both will be from 9:30AM to 2:30PM during the temporary work schedule times.

IV. Parking

Please park your vehicles at the parking lot behind Building P (President’s Office). All other parking areas are closed and must not be utilized to ensure mobility of heavy equipment throughout the campus.
