Former Northern Marianas College ROTC Program Cadet Dan Ryan Tumaquip was recently selected for a scholarship from the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholars program. On the strength of his performance at NMC and in the ROTC program, Tumaquip is a scholarship recipient for the 2020-2021 school year and will compete again in 2021-2022.

“The ROTC Program helped me prepare for this scholarship by strengthening my teamwork skills and by improving my confidence,” Tumaquip said. “My confidence as an individual has increased due to the number of challenges I have been put through. I know I may stumble, but with the support of my peers, instructors, family, my team, I know I can succeed.”

Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Anderson, the Professor of Military Science for the Northern Marianas College and University of Guam ROTC programs, said that “Dan has an incredible future ahead of him as a serious student, leader, and, when he graduates, an Army Officer. He has definitely put in the work to take charge of his future.”

After achieving success as a Sophomore at NMC, Cadet Tumaquip is now continuing on the path towards Officership in his junior year at UOG. The APIA Scholarship will help Cadet Tumaquip pay for his college courses and living expenses while away from his home in Saipan.

Cadet Tumaquip is proud to hail from the CNMI and noted that “as a future ROTC and college graduate, I hope to give back to my family and my country. Throughout my lifetime I have been blessed to be given so many opportunities to pursue my education and career. I have met so many people who have impacted my life in positive ways that I know contributed to the person I am today. I am working hard every day to become the best future officer I can be.”

Northern Marianas College’s ROTC program is the premiere leadership development program in the CNMI, producing dynamic leaders for the CNMI, the Pacific, and the United States of America.
