The latest news from Northern Marianas College

In its ongoing efforts to further higher education in the Marianas, McDonald’s is offering a $5,000 hole-in-one prize for the upcoming 16th Annual Northern Marianas College Foundation Open golf tournament currently scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2021. The first lucky golfer who makes a hole-in-one at the LaoLao Bay Golf and Resort’s hole four at the East Course will win the $5,000 prize.

“We are going through hard economic times, but education is always number one for us,” said Mable Ayuyu-Glenn, Executive Assistant to the President of McDonald’s of Saipan. “We will not stop or cut funds when it comes to education. We are still here for education, no matter what.”

Originally scheduled to happen in 2019, the tournament was canceled because of the impact of Super Typhoon Yutu and was rescheduled for March of 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic caused the tournament to be postponed again.

“McDonald's has been a great supporter of Northern Marianas College for many, many years," NMC Interim President Frankie Eliptico said. "We are grateful for the company's contribution to this year's tournament."

The NMC Foundation 16th annual open golf tournament will be held on the East Course of the Saipan LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort. Showtime is at 6:00 a.m., and the shotgun start will be at 7:00 a.m. The tournament will follow a medal play format. Covid-19 preventative measures will be followed and enforced at the tournament grounds.

First place winners in the men’s Championship, A, B, C, Senior, and Ladies Flights will each receive $500, while $300 and $200 will go to the second and third place finishers, respectively. Hole-in-one prizes also include a $5,000 hole-in-one prize from Pacifica Insurance, a 2020 Kia Soul from Joeten Motors, and a 2020 Mazda 3 from Triple J Motors. The tournament will also feature many other items such as raffle prizes like smartphones, hotel stays, meals, and much more.

The maximum number of golf players has been reached, therefore, registration is closed for this year’s tournament.
