The latest news from Northern Marianas College

The CNMI Small Business Development Center Network at the Northern Marianas College was invited to facilitate training during a breakout session at the 2nd Annual Set SAIL Conference held on April 13, 2023 at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan. The breakout session was titled Side Hustle without the Hassle: CNMI SBDCN Programs & Services. Facilitating the training were CNMI SBDC Associate Network Director, Mercilynn K. Palec, and CNMI SBDCN Marketing Manager/Outreach Specialist, Roman Tudela.

Members of the CNMI Small Business Development Center Network team were invited as guest presenters to Marianas High School Juniors and Seniors. Presenters were encouraged to share how high school, post-secondary education, and professional experiences shaped their careers and how their careers helped shape the CNMI.

When Galvin Deleon Guerrero, EdD, started his term as president of Northern Marianas College in 2021, he immediately sensed that years of traumatizing events—typhoons, economic crises, and a global pandemic—had taken a heavy toll on the mental and physical health of students and employees at the College. With that awareness, in November of that year, he launched the College’s first-ever Health Squad, which has taken a holistic approach to health with a mission to “promote health and wellness, including physical, social, emotional, and environmental health.” Since then, the Health Squad has launched several impactful initiatives and held numerous health-related events almost every month.

As part of the continuing efforts to enhance the ability of the CNMI community to recover from disasters, the Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services of the Northern Marianas College (NMC-CREES) recently trained and certified 35 residents in Disaster Response Advanced First Aid (DRAFA).

Students who are interested in pursuing a career in nursing can apply to become part of the Northern Marianas College Nursing Department’s newest cohort in the Fall 2023 semester.
